Achieving that Retro Look

When you see movie goddesses of the past, you’ll be amazed at how glamorous they are and how distinct their era is with how they look. Complementing the soft and curly short hair of these women was a makeup that can be natural during the day and dramatic at night.

Before applying your makeup, be sure to start with a clean slate by washing your face. Then, choose the colors that are most appropriate with the makeup style you are going after. Colors can be anything from the pastel color palette.

The basis of the Retro makeup look is a peaches and cream complexion. During the day, women applied either a pressed powder or a liquid foundation, as long as it reflected their femininity. If you want to achieve a retro look, have your eyebrows narrowed and keep your eye shadow and blush at minimum to make it natural looking. This makeup style of the past is often referred to in modern times as the “California look”.

For the day, you can use cosmetics in pastel colors especially if you are a young lady, but for your lips you can use red. Red lipstick was a popular choice for the evening too. Retro lips are indeed full. When you watch movies from the past, you will see how feminine women looked with their lush red lips.

For the evening, you can get away with a much more dramatic look. Since it’s night, you have to stand out. Apply a liquid eyeliner to create a highly defined contour. You can use this primarily on your upper eyelid. Then make your eyelashes fuller by using black mascara.

Of course don’t forget to complement your retro makeup with your retro outfit. When you come out from the dressing room, you’ll surely stun anyone along the way and perhaps bring them back to memory lane.
